﻿INTRODUCTION﻿
The National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) is a flagship program of the Government of India, aimed at ensuring livelihoods for the rural poor by providing them with employment opportunities. The act was passed in 2005 to provide a legal guarantee for rural employment.
Key Features:
Job Card:
Each household that registers under NREGA receives a Job Card, which serves as proof of registration and contains details about the job seeker.
Employment Guarantee:
The act guarantees at least 100 days of employment per year to each rural poor person who is willing to work.
Wages:
Workers are paid a minimum wage for their labor, which varies by state.
Job Card Number (JAN-RUPA):
Each job card has a unique number, known as the JAN-RUPA, which helps in tracking and monitoring employment generation.
